Can I wear my mouthguard during treatment?

We always recommend wearing a mouthguard during your treatment to protect your teeth and your smile. Because your teeth are moving throughout treatment we will provide you with a Boil and Bite style mouthguard and once your braces are removed we will take an impression for your custom mouthguard. Our Invisalign patients often ask if they should wear their trays at the same time. We recommend that if your trays can fit under your mouthguard to wear them otherwise remove them for the time you are wearing your mouthguard. Another common question we get is “can I wear my Invisalign as a mouthguard” and the answer is no. A mouthguard should extend above your teeth to protect both your upper jaw and teeth if there is a traumatic impact. Invisalign trays are not designed to be protective.
