X-Bow (Class II Correctors):
The X-Bow appliance is our preferred treatment modality for patients with a moderate to severe overbite. It consists of a maxillary expander and springs attached to a lower retainer. It is very similar to a Herbst appliance but we find it to be gentler on the patient. The goal of the X-Bow is to advance the lower jaw and teeth to improve the overbite, encouraging the lower jaw into a more forward position improving our facial profile. The X-Bow appliance works best on our preteen and teen patients that are still growing. We use this appliance for 6-10 months before transitioning into upper and lower braces to achieve our final tooth alignment.
The Carriere Motion Appliance is our preferred treatment modality for patients with a mild to moderate overbite. It consists of elastics or rubber bands that attach the Carriere Appliance to a lower retainer which corrects your overbite before we move into braces or Invisalign®. It is a sleek way to do most of your bite correction at the beginning of your treatment, minimizing your overall time in braces.
