Sometimes a bracket might come loose, or a wire may poke into your cheek. Our concern is your comfort. If a wire is poking your cheek, try clipping it with sterilized nail clippers or wire cutters. It also may be possible to bend the wire with the end of a spoon handle or needle nose pliers.
Wax can also be placed over the irritant. A broken bracket or loose retainer is not an emergency if you are not in discomfort. Wax can be used on a broken bracket to make it more comfortable. If you are not experiencing any discomfort, please call our office the next business day to schedule a repair appointment.
If you are unable to make yourself comfortable, please call our office and the answering service will page the orthodontist on call. We will arrange to make you more comfortable until a repair appointment can be scheduled.
Always inform us if you have a broken bracket or retainer before you come to your regularly scheduled appointment so that extra time can be arranged for repair.
